Info:
Five releases in and the imprint has already featured releases and remixes from DJ Madskills, Anton Pieete, Paul Ritch and Doomwork & Neuroxyde. Today they turn to a producer who is in an enviable run of form… Nic Fanciulli.
Fresh from his stunning remix of Lusine’s ‘Two Dots’ and the chart ruling ‘Feed The Freezer’ release on Rejected, Fanciulli returns to Amsterdam with another storming three track release, seemingly dedicated to our favourite tool of communication.
Lead track ‘Caller ID’ sees Fanciulli achieve another coup, by featuring the vocal sample of Bernard Fowler from the legendary Peech Boys. The regal trio of Fowler, Larry Levan and Michael de Benedictus formed in the early 1980’s, and whilst their output was minimal, each release, 1982’s ‘Life Is Something Special’, 1983’s ‘On A Journey’ and 1984’s ‘The Magic Feeling’ are all now considered classic cuts.
But its their very first release ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ that Fanciulli has turned to. A record that, legend has it, Levan would spin two copies of back to back at the Paradise Garage, prolonging the pleasure.
Bernard makes his cameo in the final third of ‘Caller ID’. A wonderfully bouncy cut, with a warped, twisted and hypnotic horn line. Equally at home in the largest arenas, as it is in the darkest of basements.
‘On The Phone’ has a more subtle approach. Its underlying, pulsing bassline, whilst somewhat moody, generates a deadly groove. Its varying layers of synths give dramatic effect and paired with the classic house vocal, make this a sure fire secret weapon.
Bringing the EP to a close, we put in a call to the Emergency Services with ‘999’. Bringing the funk with its rubbery bassline, and driven on by the toughest of kick drums. ‘999’ with is trippy synth stabs and hand claps is a prime terrace tool.
